Question Discussion & Solution

The correct answer is Second.

Key Points

• Second Generation(1955-1964):
  • The computer made in the second generation was completely based upon transistors.
  • Transistors replaced vacuum tubes in computers.
  • It was invented at Bell Labs by Walter H. Brattain (1902-1987), John Bardeen (1908-1991), and William B. Shockley (1910-1989) in 1947.
  • In the computers of the second generation, punched cards and printouts were used for inputs and outputs.
  • The TX-0 was the first computer that used transistors, It was released in 1956.
  • These second-generation machines were used for a wide variety of business and scientific jobs and used high-level programming and assembly languages such as FORTRAN (Formula Translator) and COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language).
  • The second-generation computers had several features:
    • Computers made in the second generation used transistors that made them more reliable, smaller in size, faster in speed, more energy-efficient, and cheaper compared to the first generation of computers.
    • They contain magnetic storage disks and magnetic core memory.
    • They used high-level languages such as FORTRAN and COBOL and allowed communication with the help of a telephone line.
    • As compared to the first generation of computers, the data processing time reduced from milliseconds to microseconds.

Additional Information

• First Generation(1942-1955):
  • The first-generation computers used vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drums for memory.
  • They were often enormous and taking up the entire room.
  •  First-generation computers relied on machine language.
  • They were very expensive to operate and in addition to using a great deal of electricity, generated a lot of heat, which was often the cause of malfunctions.
  •  The UNIVAC and ENIAC computers are examples of first-generation computing devices.
• Third Generation(1964-1975):
  • The development of the integrated circuit was the hallmark of the third generation of computers.
  • Transistors were miniaturized and placed on Silicon chips called semiconductors.
  • Instead of punched cards and printouts, users interacted with third-generation computers through keyboards and monitors and interfaced with an operating system.
  •  It allowed the device to run many different applications at one time.
• Fourth Generation(1971- up to till now):
  • The microprocessor brought the fourth generation of computers, as thousands of integrated circuits were built onto a single silicon chip.
  • The Intel 4004 chip, developed in 1971, located all the components of the computer.
  • From the central processing unit and memory to input/output controls on a single chip.
  • Fourth-generation computers also saw the development of GUIs, the mouse, and handheld devices.

The correct answer is DE116.

Key Points

• The hexadecimal number system consists of the symbols 0 - 9, A - F.
• Hexadecimal uses decimal numbers and six extra symbols.
• There are no numerical symbols that represent values greater than nine, so letters taken from the English alphabet are used, specifically A, B, C, D, E, and F, where Hexadecimal A = decimal 10, and hexadecimal F = decimal 15.
• A binary number is just a string of zeros and ones: 11011011.
• Three bits, each being on or off, can represent the eight numbers from 0 to 7, this is known as the octal number system.

• Steps to Convert Binary to Hex:
  • Start from the least significant bit (LSB) at the right of the binary number and divide it up into groups of 4 digits. (4 digital bits is called a "nibble").
  • Convert each group of 4 binary digits to its equivalent hex value (see table above).
  • Concatenate the results together, giving the total hex number.
•  The binary code is given in question 1101 1110 0001 ⇒ DE1₁₆

The correct answer is Ctrl + Z.

Key Points

• To undo an action press Ctrl+Z.
• If you prefer your mouse, click Undo on the Quick Access Toolbar.
• You can press Undo (or CTRL+Z) repeatedly if you want to undo multiple steps.
• Undo means to destroy the effect of something that has already happened.

The correct answer is HTTPS.

• HTTPS(HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure): is an application layer protocol and used for secure communication over the internet.

Additional Information

• HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol): is an application layer protocol designed to transfer information between networked devices and runs on top of other layers of the network protocol stack. HTTP involves a client machine making a request to a server, which then sends a response message and communication between web browsers and web servers. HTTP is a stateless protocol.
• SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): is an application layer protocol and used to send emails over the internet. SMTP is a state-full protocol.
• TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol) is the communication protocol is used by the internet and used to interconnect network devices on the internet. Its routing function enables internetworking and essentially establishes the Internet.
• TCP is responsible for the data delivery of a packet and IP is responsible for the logical addressing.
• FTP (File Transfer Protocol):  is an application layer protocol and used to exchange files on the internet and copy large files from a remote computer to the requesters' computer.

The correct answer is Subscript.

Key Points

• While writing equations in MS-Word, the subscript feature is used to type very small letters/numbers below the line of text.
• A subscript is a character or string that is smaller than the preceding text and sits at or below the baseline.
• For subscript and superscript follow these steps:
  • Select the text or number that you want to subscript or superscript
  • For superscript, press Ctrl, Shift, and the Plus sign (+) at the same time.
  • For subscript, press Ctrl and the Equal sign (=) at the same time. (Do not press Shift).
