In comparison with static RAM memory, the dynamic RAM memory has

A

lower bit density and higher power consumption

B

higher bit density and higher power consumption

C

lower bit density and lower power consumption

D

higher bit density and lower power consumption

E

None of the above

Correct Answer: D

The dynamic RAM memory has higher bit density and lower power consumption. DRAM : Dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) is a type of random access semiconductor memory that stores each bit of data in a separate tiny capacitor within an integrated circuit. The capacitor can either be charged or discharged; these two states are taken to represent the two values of a bit, conventionally called 0 and 1.

The memory which is ultraviolet light erasable and electrically programmable is

A

ROM

B

PROM

C

RAM

D

EPROM

E

None of the above

Correct Answer: D

An EPROM or erasable programmable read-only memory, is a type of memory chip that retains its data when its power supply is switched off. Computer memory that can retrieve stored data after a power supply has been turned off and back on is called non-volatile. It is an array of floating-gate transistors individually programmed by an electronic device that supplies higher voltages than those normally used in digital circuits. Once programmed, an EPROM can be erased by exposing it to strong ultraviolet light source (such as from a mercury-vapor light). Source : wikipedia.org

A computer has a 1024K memory. What does the letter K stand for

A

Kilometre

B

Thousand

C

1024

D

MB

E

None of the above

Correct Answer: C

In decimal systems, kilo stands for 1,000, but in binary systems, a kilo is 1,024 (2 to the 10th power). Technically, therefore, a kilobyte is 1,024 bytes, but it is often used loosely as a synonym for 1,000 bytes. For example, a computer that has 256K main memory can store approximately 256,000 bytes (or characters) in memory at one time. A megabyte is 2 to the 20th power (approximately 1 million) and a gigabytes 2 to the 30th power (approximately 1 billion). In computer literature, a kilobyte is usually abbreviated as K or KB. To distinguish between a decimal K (1,000) and a binary K (1,024), the IEEE has suggested following the convention of using a small k for a decimal kilo and a capital Kfor a binary kilo, but this convention is by no means strictly followed. The memory sizes in mainframe computers and advanced technology micro computers are expressed as

A

Bytes

B

Kilo-bytes

C

Bits

D

Megabytes

E

None of the above

Correct Answer: D

The megabyte is a multiple of the unit byte for digital information. Its recommended unit symbol is MB. The unit prefix mega is a multiplier of 1000000 (106) in the International System of Units (SI). Therefore, one megabyte is one million bytes of information.
