MCQ
Q.
Which of the following is a plant hormone that helps in cell division?
Correct Answer: C
The Correct Answer is Cytokinin.
Key Points
- Cytokinins are a class of plant growth substances (phytohormones) that promote cell division or cytokinesis in plant roots and shoots.
- There are two types of Cytokinins: Adenine-type Cytokinins represented by Zeatin, Kinetin and 6-Benzylaminopurine and Phenylurea-type Cytokinins like Diphenylurea and Thidiazuron (TDZ).
Key Points
- Auxins are a class of plant hormones with some morphogen-like characteristics. Auxins play a cardinal role in the coordination of many growths and behavioural processes in plant life cycles and are essential for plant body development.
- Abscisic acid is a plant hormone. ABA functions in many plant developmental processes, including seed and bud dormancy, the control of organ size and stomatal closure.
- Gibberellins are plant hormones that regulate various developmental processes, including stem elongation, dormancy, germination, flowering, flower development and leaf and fruit senescence.

Plant Hormones |
Functions |
|
Ethylene |
It is a natural plant hormone that helps in the ripening of fruits. |
|
Auxin |
It is the hormone that controls the growth of plants. |
| Cytokinin | It naturally works in coordination with auxins and helps in cell division and development. |
| Abscisic acid | Found mostly near leaves, stems, and unripe fruit and causes senescence |
| Gibberellins | Present in the meristems of apical buds and roots, young leaves, and embryo. Helps in the germination of seeds. |
