Biosphere reserves are areas of terrestrial and coastal ecosystems that promote the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use. 

• They are internationally recognized within the framework of UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) program and nominated by national governments.
• There are over 500 biosphere reserves in over 100 countries around the world.
• There are 18 notified Biosphere reserves in India.
• Out of them, 11 Biosphere Reserves are in UNESCO’s MAB World Network.

Nilgiri Biosphere reserve:-

• ​The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve was the first and Oldest biosphere reserve in India established in the year 1986.
• It is located in the Western Ghats and includes 2 of the 10 biogeographical provinces of India.
• The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve falls under the biogeographic region of the Malabar rain forest.
• The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary Bandipur National Park, Nagarhole National Park, Mukurthi National Park, and Silent Valley are the protected areas present within this reserve.

CONCEPT:

Rutherford’s Model of the Atom:

• He bombarded the beam of alpha particles on a very thin gold foil.
• While bombarding he observes the number of scattering of particles –
  • Most of the particles passed either un-deviated or with a very small deviation.
  • Some deviated by large angles
  • 1 out of 8000 was deflected by more than 90°
• The conclusion to this deflection:
  • Most of the space of an atom is empty.
  • At the centre of an atom having a tiny positively charged particle called a nucleus.
  • The centre nucleus has all the mass of an atom.
  • The amount of positive charge at the nucleus is equal to the total amount of negative charges on all the electrons of the atom.
  • All the electrons revolve around the nucleus and coulomb force provide the centripetal force

• After the α -particles scattering experiment, the following conclusions were made by Rutherford as regard as atomic structure:

• Most of the mass (at least 99.95%) and all of the charge of an atom concentrated in a very small region is called the atomic nucleus. Therefore option 4 is correct.
• The nucleus consists of proton and neutron, in which proton was first discovered by Rutherford but neutrons were later discovered by James Chadwick in 1932.
• In an atom, there is maximum empty space and the electrons revolve around the nucleus in the same way as the planets revolve around the sun and the nnumber of protons and electrons inside an atom are equal under normal conditions (non-ionized).

Bahlul Lodhi was the founder of the Lodhi Dynasty in 1451. By the end of the 15th-century Bahlul Lodi firmly established the Lodi dynasty at Delhi. He succeeded in bringing a large area of North India under his control. After his death, his son Sikandar Lodi succeeded him to the throne.

• In the sixteenth century the Lodi Empire, under Sultan Sikandar Lodi, in North India reached its zenith.
• The annexation of Dholpur paved the way for the expansion of Afghan rule in the regions of Rajputana and Malwa. The forts of Narwar and Chanderi were annexed while the Khanzada of Nagaur acknowledged the suzerainty of the Lodi Sultan in 1510-11.
• In short, the whole of North India, from Punjab in the northwest to Saran and Champaran in north Bihar in the east, and Chanderi to the south of Delhi were brought under the Lodi rule.
• Unlike his father, Sultan Ibrahim Lodi had to face the hostility of the 108 Political Structures Afghan nobility soon after his accession to the throne in 1517.
• He found himself surrounded by powerful nobles bent upon weakening the center to gain an upper hand for themselves. His father had to fight against his brothers and relatives and was supported by the nobles who wanted to replace the princes in the resourceful provinces. Upon the death of Sultan Sikandar Lodhi, the nobles decided to divide the Empire between Sultan Ibrahim Lodi and his younger brother Prince Jalal Khan Lodi, the governor of Kalpi.
